Go get ‘em! I suggest San Clemente’s Hop Juice or Port Brewery’s Hop 15. Very strong, very good!
I’d love to! I tried the Hop juice out in SoCal, but it’s not available outside of Arizona and the San Diego area..Damn it!
OK folks, here’s an update on my quest…
After today, I’ll be at 45..
I’m at the Saucer enjoying a Sol (..yes, I said a Sol), enjoying the scenery, er..I mean the servers..I mean the nice young ladies bringing me my brew..
Here’s the scoop on the Sol. Kind of typical for a beer from Mexico, yet much better than a Corona Light (hell, anything is..) It’s light, with a hoppy tinge to it, nice to start off with..
Next, I move on to some cheese fries (yeah, I know time to hit the bike tonight) and a Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. As IPA’s go, not bad, but then I’m used to much better such as Stone or Dogfish Head’s 60 or 90 minute IPA, however it has a nice golden color and a slight sweetness to it. A nice, but not that strong hop flavor.
Next we move onto the Dogfish Head Midas Touch Golden Elixir. For those not familiar, Dogfish Head usually does it right and they did with this one. It has history behind it as well. Legend has it, it is the oldest beer recipe in history. The ingredients were found in the tomb of Midas himself! This beer is actually a beer/wine/Meade combo. It uses barley, muscat grapes, honey and saffron. But keep on eye on it, it pack’s a punch at 9% ABV…It has a sweetness to it that is refreshing, while maintaining a nice punch that can sneak up on you..
Hit the Saucer on Thursday night and had an Avery Salvation. This was one welcomed surprise. Weighing in at 9% ABV and full of a sweet hop flavor. It’s golden in color and has a nice, but not overpowering citrus flavor.
The alcohol balances all this out, making it a nice Belgian style Pale Ale. Worth picking up.
Ok, here’s and update on the quest for 200.
I’m at the Flying Saucer getting something to eat and having a Stone Pale Ale!!! Texas could only get the Arrogant Bastard and IPA up ‘til now due to the liquor laws in Texas. Looks like we have the Pale Ale too! Hopefully, this is a sign that more Stone beers are in my future.
The Stone Pale Ale is a great standby as far as pale ale’s go. It has a nice amber color, a fruity sweetness and subtle hoppness to finish it off. Stone yet again proves it is the real king of beers.
I also had a Real Ale Brewhouse Brown. It’s, guess what..brown in color. However, beyond that who cares….This beer took me 30 minutes to finish because I could neither give up, or finish it. It has a nutty flavor and very dry. Do not recommend…Typical of Texas beers.
And last but not least, Flying Dog’s Woody Creek White..A classic Wit (white ale). A slight licorice flavor, but not overpowering. Typical white beer coloring, and a slight fruit flavor( a kind of orange peel flavor?)..Another solid beer from Flying Dog.
Keep it up! I am way behind on this. Slowly but surely I will get there:)
I applaud your efforts. I haven’t found a beer yet that I would prefer over wine but I’m open to finding it.
