At the Rainforest Cafe'

Enjoyed a good ol’ standby: New Belgian’s Fat Tire. Amber in color, medium head. A solid ale.

Pint night

Pint night at the Flying Saucer. Here’s what I’m trying tonight:

Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale: A nice Pale Ale with slight hoppiness to it, but weak in flavor.

Sierra Nevada Wheat: Golden in color like most wheat beers. A definate citrus flavor with a small head. Not big on flavor. Would not recommend.

Boulevard Wheat: a very nice wheat beer. A definate citrus flavor( banana?) cloudy in color and a depth in the flavor I didn’t expect. Nice!

At the Saucer

Ok. At the Saucer having a few brews with my sister. Here’s what I’m having:

Brekenridge Christmas Ale: Basic Pale Ale with typical with nutmeg and other holiday spices. Not bad.

Oskar Blues Brewery Old Chub: A solid Scottish ale. But honestly, I’m not wowed. Chocolate accents and creamy.

Kostritzer Schearzbier: A solid black beer with subtlies the Guiness doesn’t have

Stone IPA

If you like IPA’s (and if you don’t, you’re missing out), this is the best. Hops do not begin to describe this one. Dry hopped with love in Esconsido, California, this IPA is abmer in color with a nice white head. Hops do dominate the smell and taste, but are not over whelming. About as perfect for an IPA as you can get….

Except for Stone’s Ruination IPA and their Cali-Belique IPA…..more later

Thanksgiving brew

My sister brought me a a little IPA from the Northeast part of the country: Brooklyn Brewery’s East India IPA. Not bad, not very strong on the hop front and a little sweet(a hint of citrus), but just bitter enough to enjoy.

Happy Turkey Day!

Some time to myself

I had a little time to myself today. Got in 20 miles on the road bike. Chiled at the house for a little and will see a movie later. At the moment I am at the Flying Saucer enjoying some food and a few brews.

Here’s what I’m having:

Lava lamp: This is a mixture created at the Saucer. It contains Harp Lager, a little Nitro Stout and Lindemand Framboise. Not bad, but won’t go looking for it again. The mixture of the Lager and the Stout didn’t work and the Framboise made it too sweet. Continue reading ‘Some time to myself’

At the Saucer

Ok, here’s and update on the quest for 200.

I’m at the Flying Saucer getting something to eat and having a Stone Pale Ale!!! Texas could only get the Arrogant Bastard and IPA up ‘til now due to the liquor laws in Texas. Looks like we have the Pale Ale too! Hopefully, this is a sign that more Stone beers are in my future.

The Stone Pale Ale is a great standby as far as pale ale’s go. It has a nice amber color, a fruity sweetness and subtle hoppness to finish it off. Stone yet again proves it is the real king of beers. Continue reading ‘At the Saucer’

Hello fellow hop heads!

Hello to all ! This page is currently under some major construction, but I promise I’ll get something started to soon!

This is my first weblog and I want to get it right!

I intend to chronicle my adventures in beer tasting, good and bad, so beer with me (pun intended..). As much as I think I know, the more I realize I don’t, so this will be an adventure for all of us!

As one of our beloved founding fathers said “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
